Cyclists hit area streets, help United Way

Brighton's Rob Taylor was among the 320-plus participants in the Tour de Livingston bike ride Saturday. Riders had the chance to tour four 25-mile routes starting and ending at Mt. Brighton Ski Area west of downtown Brighton in a fund… Continue

Wow. Iceland is beautiful.

Yes well when I head to America I want to check out a nice mix of cultural and natural elements. God knows where I will start/finish... I do tend to want to stray into the art world so New York for sure. I guess as a foreigner you hear a lot about the Southwest, those gorgeous massive lakes and the protected parks etc. Personally as much fun as nature is I love to be amongst it. Its people that make my trips memorable :o)

I have to ask... why Iceland? I'm in the process of saving money to go to America next year actually. Anywhere you suggest I check out (or avoid). Hopefully the exchange rate stays the same :o)

I was at d'Arenberg Winery for the McLaren Vale Sea & Vines Festival a month ago. Great place. You sound like you are traveller. Have any future plans to go overseas?

Hello there Jim. You look like you had a ball when you were in Oz. How gorgeous is Kangaroo Island? I've been there quite a few times and there is always something new to see. So peaceful. Other than the gorgeous remote sandy beaches, the remarkable rocks would have to be a personal favourite. Did you get a chance when you were in Adelaide to check out the McLaren Vale or Barossa Wine Regions? LVS

My profile picture was actually taken in NY, I was on a 4 wheeler. I should probably get a bike though, it's such a popular thing to do here. Neat photo of the border. :)

Out Your Backdoor

What I'm Skiing on These Days...

December 31, 1969 - This is our local snow condition. It can't get any worse and still semi-function. Oh well! It's been this way for a week now. A half inch of sparse crust. And ice. And stuff. ...And I think I have the best there is in the area! (Our yard trails are very shady.)

YouTube Song Tribute to Lit-Hero Jack Saunders!

December 31, 1969 - How many writers have songs written about them? ...Writers who are working today? ...Who've never had a book published? ...Who've dedicated their whole lives to the greatness and glory of literature? Here's a YouTube video by Jack Collins who wrote and performed a nifty song about my literary hero Jack Saunders. J...

Ride on Ice! ...Easy DIY Tire Studs for Bikes

December 31, 1969 - A lot of the time you can bike in the winter on regular equipment. Those who don't hide from this season know that the roads are dry a lot of the time. But when you get snow it's time to switch to the mtbike with knobby tires---they work fine on plain snow or hard-pack. A day or so later you can often tell that some black ice ha...

Waxable Skis That Don't Need Wax!

December 31, 1969 - My pal Dick Fultz runs the best/only pro race XC ski shop in Michigan. He offers this semi-new nifty product that I've finally started using...and liking. It's Start Grip Tape. $12. Enough for several sets of skis. You tape it on to the grip zone of your waxable skis and then go skiing for a few months without worrying about cha...

Link to Story: Two Friends Exploring the US in 1944

December 31, 1969 - Here's a wonderful journal story, full of photos, about 2 girlfriends who explored the eastern USA in 1944 by way of bike and barge...and by truck and hitch-hiking and whichever way. It's a timeless tale of gumption. Here's what one of them says early on: We were determined never to be put into the category with those ...
